IF: Cars

I haven't done Illustration Friday in so long.
I think me forgets how to draw!

I drew these cars awhile back. I have never drawn anything realistic in my life! I tried, too. But I just don't have the hootspa (is that the right word I'm looking for?) to be able to master such a feat! You really need a ton more drawing skills than I have!

Then. I thought of something. I placed a photograph into Illustrator and I started to trace the car in a separate layer above the photograph. I was so thrilled. I felt like I was 11 years old all over again tracing Peanuts and Archie comic books. I hit a level I never thought I was capable of.

Some might call it cheating. But I call it pure genius.

If this is cheating, then we do it all day long at advertising agencies. :) Tracing is how we get advertising illustrations out so fast. That's why I love illustration friday, so I can get back to doing the real art by hand. Nice work! I especially like the bottom right.

these remind me of trading cards... you would find in things like tea... or cereal....
I like how you balanced em...
Im partial to the red car myself... it remeinds me of a 1956 corvette.... :)

Traced or not, these show a mastery of Illustrator and great design sensibilities... not to mention fine choices of subject matter... Classic.

Fantastic and pure genius. Totally not cheating. Lot's of artists use light tables to trace photos and parts of their own drawings into other drawings. Using illustrator to do it is no different.

That's definitely working smart, for sure. Besides, there aren't any cheats when it comes to creating, right? These are way cool and an excellent addition to a portfolio sampling. I love the look! I want that sweet ride in the top right!
